Vapor Barrier Installation

Bare soil in a crawl space gives off moisture all day, every day. That moisture rises into the air, settles in the wood and insulation, and feeds mold and rot. A properly installed vapor barrier is one of the simplest and most effective ways to cut it off.

We install vapor barriers in crawl spaces across Nashville and Middle Tennessee, replacing thin, torn builder plastic with reinforced material, overlapped and sealed at the seams, around piers and up the walls.

What you get

Done right, from the first walk-through

01

Reinforced polyethylene barrier

Tough, puncture-resistant material built for the traffic and sharp edges of a crawl space.

02

Overlapped and taped seams

Seams are lapped generously and sealed so there are no open paths for vapor.

03

Cut and sealed around piers and pipes

Every penetration is trimmed and sealed rather than left open.

04

Fastened edges

The barrier is secured to the walls so it stays in place for the long term.

The process

How your service comes together

  1. 1

    Clear and level

Old plastic and debris are removed and the ground is smoothed so the barrier lies flat.

  2. 2

    Lay and seal

The new barrier is rolled out, seams are overlapped and sealed and it is cut around every pier and pipe.

  3. 3

    Secure the edges

The barrier is fastened up the wall and checked for gaps before we finish.

FAQ

Common questions about vapor barriers

Is a vapor barrier enough on its own?

It helps a great deal, but it works best with sealed vents, good drainage and humidity control. We tell you whether it is enough for your crawl space or part of a larger plan.

Can you install it over old plastic?

Usually we remove it. Old plastic hides moisture and debris and rarely seals properly, so a fresh start gives a better result.

Will it hold up if people go into the crawl space?

Reinforced barrier is made to take regular foot traffic, but we recommend walkways or pads in areas where equipment is serviced often.
