Interior French Drains

When water seeps through or under a foundation wall, an interior French drain gives it somewhere to go. It sits along the footing, collects the water as it arrives and carries it to a sump pump before it can wet the floor or soil in the middle of the space.

We install interior French drains in crawl spaces and basements across Nashville and Middle Tennessee. The drain is cut in, pipe and gravel are placed, and a membrane on the wall directs seepage down into the system.

The process

How your service comes together

  1. 1

    Plan the route

We map the water paths, find low points and plan slope toward the sump.

  2. 2

    Cut and lay

The floor or ground is opened, pipe and gravel are laid and the system is connected.

  3. 3

    Close and test

We close the trench, run water through the drain and check flow to the sump.

FAQ

Common questions about interior french drains

What is the difference between interior and exterior drains?

Interior drains collect water inside the foundation, without digging up the yard. Exterior drains intercept it outside. The right choice depends on access, landscaping and where the water is coming from.

Will you have to open the floor?

In a basement, a narrow strip of concrete is cut out along the wall. In a crawl space, the trench is dug in the soil along the footing.

Does the drain need maintenance?

Not much, but cleanouts let you flush the line and check for blockages if you ever need to.
