Water that stands against a foundation or runs downhill toward a house will find its way into the crawl space. An exterior French drain intercepts that water in the soil and carries it away before it ever reaches the wall.
We install exterior French drains for homes in Nashville and across Middle Tennessee, working with the red clay and rock that make digging in this area a challenge. Drains are sloped, wrapped and routed to a place where water can leave safely.
What you get
Washed stone and filter fabric keep the drain open instead of silting up.
Pipe is laid with a steady fall so water keeps moving.
Water is released where it will not flood a neighbor or return to the house.
Soil and sod or mulch are put back so the yard is usable again.
The process
We look at grade, gutters, the foundation and where water collects.
The trench is cut, fabric, gravel and pipe are installed and the outlet is built.
We backfill, run water through the line and check the flow and the outlet.
FAQ
They do the best work together. Gutters and downspouts collect roof water, and the drain handles what soaks into the ground.
Yes. Clay holds water, so drains with the right gravel and slope help a great deal. We plan for that when we design the route.
We keep the trench as narrow as the job allows and restore the surface afterward. Large plants in the path may need to be moved.
